What do these specs mean?

Understanding Thermal Specs

Thermal Resolution

Think of this like a TV screen (e.g., 1280x1024). A higher number means more pixels. More pixels give you a sharper, more detailed image, allowing you to digitally zoom in much further before the image gets blurry or pixelated.

Thermal Lens

Similar to a camera lens, measured in millimeters (e.g., 50mm). A larger lens gathers more thermal energy and "sees" further, giving you a longer detection range. However, larger lenses typically result in a narrower field of view.

Pixel Interval (Pitch)

The physical distance between pixels on the sensor, measured in microns (e.g., 12µm). A smaller number means the pixels are packed tighter together, which produces a crisper image and extends your optical magnification without needing a massive lens.

NETD (Thermal Sensitivity)

Measures how tiny of a temperature difference the device can detect. Lower is better (e.g., < 15mK beats < 25mK). A lower NETD means you get a much clearer picture in terrible weather (rain, thick fog, high humidity) and superior contrast between the animal and its surroundings.

Thermal FOV (Field of View)

How wide of an area you can see at once. A wider FOV is excellent for scanning large areas quickly to spot movement. A narrower FOV usually means the device has higher magnification, perfect for identifying specific targets at long distances.

Understanding the Math

We believe in honest, real-world field specifications.

Detection ranges are calculated by taking the manufacturer's baseline testing and physically scaling it to the average height of the target animal.

Recognition & Identification are calculated using Johnson's Criteria—the military standard for thermal optics. By analyzing the physical properties of the camera's lens and sensor pitch, we calculate exactly when the target will take up enough pixels on your screen to be clearly identified.

Note: High humidity, thick coats, and environmental background temperatures will reduce these maximum optical distances in the field.

Product Overview
Versatile Zoom & Game-Changing Optical Clarity To adapt to any monitoring situation, the Rix Leap L3R offers a game-changing base optical magnification of 3.2× up to 9.6×, controlled via a dedicated optical zoom adjustment lever. Traditional thermal optics rely heavily on digital zoom, which crops the sensor data and often results in a grainy, heavily pixelated image at higher magnifications. The Leap L3R solves this common issue by using true optical zoom to magnify the ultra-high-resolution AMOLED display lens itself. This allows field operators to push in for close-up subject identification while retaining the crisp, native clarity of the 384 thermal sensor.

Advanced Thermal Surveillance
The RIX Leap L3R is a highly sophisticated, tube-style thermal observation scope engineered for professional perimeter surveillance, wildlife observation, and site monitoring. Designed with a traditional 30mm tube format, this device mounts seamlessly to standard observation tripods and surveillance rigs, offering incredible situational awareness in total darkness or adverse weather conditions.

High-Clarity Thermal Sensor & Display Equipped with a highly sensitive 384 × 288 (12 μm) thermal sensor and an exceptional NETD rating of <20 mK, the Leap L3R easily cuts through fog, heavy rain, and complete darkness to deliver highly detailed thermal signatures. Observers can view these crisp images on a massive, ultra-high-resolution 1920 × 1080 AMOLED display, allowing for the rapid identification of subjects up to 1,800 meters away.

Integrated Laser Rangefinder Crucial spatial data is seamlessly integrated directly into the objective lens. The built-in Laser Rangefinder (LRF) provides accurate distance measurements up to 1,200 meters (1,312 yards), ensuring field operators always have the exact range awareness needed when monitoring expansive properties.
